SEEKING NOCTURNIST & ACADEMIC/PROCEDURALIST
HOSPITALISTS
The Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School
of Medicine at UT San Antonio (UTSA) is currently seeking Nocturnist and Academic
Track/Proceduralist Hospitalists. These positions hold an appointment of Assistant
Professor/Clinical, Associate Professor/Clinical or Professor/Clinical dependent on the applicant’s
level of experience.
These positions involve clinical work on housestaff and non-housestaff services at University
Hospital as well as admissions, cross-cover, and participating in medical student and resident
education and other scholarly activities. Providing clinical care to patients throughout their
hospital stay, communicating with patients and their families, relaying chosen course of treatment
to each patient’s physician, coordinating with other physicians to ensure that treatment fits with
the patient’s medical history and health needs. Academic Hospitalist opportunities involve teaching
and instruction of medical students, residents and fellows. Additionally, Academic candidates must
have experience performing and/or be willing to receive training to perform the following as part
of the Hospitalist Procedure Service: arthrocentesis, central venous access, lumbar puncture,
non-tunneled dialysis line placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
Qualified candidates must have a MD or DO degree, have completed 3 years of an ACGME-certified
Internal Medicine residency and be board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine through
the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). In addition, must be licensed by the Texas Medical
Board and maintain a certification by the Drug Enforcement Administration for credentials with UTSA
and University Hospital.
