Chair, Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control & Employee Health
Division of Internal Medicine

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting an international search for an outstanding accomplished professional to provide administrative leadership and assume full responsibility for all areas of management in the role of Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health in the Division of Internal Medicine.

The candidate should be an accomplished clinical leader, nationally recognized with a strong clinical and academic reputation and who has the leadership competencies to further develop a nationally-recognized department including finance and budget, long range planning, resource allocations, space administration and faculty development.

The Chair will actively engage in, encourage and foster development of clinical and translational research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department and will practice infectious diseases in an exemplary manner. This position entails responsibility for maintaining and enhancing the content of the

didactic program and technical training for the department's fellows. Additional responsibilities include pursuit of appropriate funding mechanisms in support of research activities and representing the department at the local, state, and national levels. The Chair of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control & Employee Health reports to the Head of the Division of Internal Medicine.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in academic infectious diseases including infection control in cancer.
  2. M.D. degree and board certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
  3. Demonstration of clinical and academic excellence.
  4. Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to effectively inspire their team and promote accountability and collaboration across the institution.
  5. Ability to function effectively in a matrix organization characterized by complex intra- and inter- disciplinary relationships.
  6. Exceptional collaborative, leadership, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  7. Proven track record in clinical and/or laboratory research.
  8. Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure.
  9. Fellowship training in infectious diseases is strongly preferred.
  10. A record of exceptional outcomes-driven patient care in academic settings, and in building clinical practice.
  11. Leadership experience in leading multi and transdisciplinary programs.
  12. Experience in bridging multidisciplinary collaborations between diverse disciplines across fields including: oncology, infectious diseases, infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship and employee health.
  13. Demonstrated skills in programmatic development, including the negotiation of agreements with clinical and industry partners.
  14. Demonstrated administrative competence to ensure the fiscally sound and efficient day-to-day operation of the department.
